A high toned, blue and black fruited Malbec from Pyros Wines, high up in the Pedernal Valley in San Juan, Argentina. Big, yet approachable, this is a warm, weighty wine with a lot of richness and tannic drive. It makes a great table fellow for beef - slow cooked or grilled.

In 2008, Mijndert Pon, founder of Bodegas Salentein, visited Valle de Pedernal in San Juan and was inspired by its great beauty, wild and inhospitable nature, and diverse terroir. This inspiration, along with his vision to invest in the distinctiveness of Valle de Pedernal, led to the creation of Pyros Wines, the first winery that reflects the unique terroir of Valle de Pedernal.

Today, his children Frederike and Ben Pon determinedly lead the iconic Pedernal vineyard, their father's legacy, with the firm purpose of crafting wines that faithfully capture the essence of this extraordinary place, sharing them with the world.

The story of Pyros begins in a unique vineyard on the western slope of the Valle de Pedernal, at 1,400 meters above sea level, perfectly situated in terms of soil, climatic conditions, and water.

The vineyard enjoys a gentle breeze from the Andes, which promotes healthy vine growth, benefiting us in producing organic grapes.

The specific location of the Pyros Vineyard provides different types of soils that allow us to create wines from individual parcels, each with a unique character and profile.

Tasting
NOTES

A classic expression of a more extracted Malbec. High toned red, blue and black fruit, violets and touch of tobacco. Moderate acidity and fresh, soft, round tannins support slightly rustic, green-tinged black fruit. Toasted spices suggest time in barrel. Approachable and drinkable, the palate is warm, weighty and has a lot of richness. Tannin driven finish.

PAIRINGS

This more extracted style of Malbec is definitely best suited to beef: beef cheek braised in red wine, grilled beef sweetbreads, or porterhouse steak.
