Domaine Alexandre Bonnet: Les Vignes Blanches 2019

Domaine Alexandre Bonnet is a RM (Grower Champagne) producer based in the southernmost town of Champagne since the 1970s. With over 47 hectares of vines planted on some of the steepest slopes of Champagne, the estate benefits from soils rich in Kimméridgian Limestone. The varying exposures of the vineyard contribute to the unique character of their wines.

Certified HVE3, Domaine Alexandre Bonnet is actively engaged in sustainable practices, conducting experiments on organic vineyards to continually improve its environmental efforts.

Les Vignes Blanches is a single-vineyard Blanc de Noirs, crafted entirely from Pinot Noir grown on some of the best terroirs in the Les Riceys vineyards of the Côte des Bar. Located in the northern part of the terroir with a southeast exposure, this wine showcases the exceptional expression of Pinot Noir from the 2019 vintage.

Normally, these grapes are blended with other Pinot Noirs to create the estate’s flagship Blanc de Noirs. However, due to the outstanding quality of the 2019 harvest, 8000 bottles were separated to express the purest essence of Les Riceys terroir. This wine reflects the estate’s history, the character of the Pinot Noir, and the unique climate of that particular vintage.

Tasting
NOTES

Red apples and bramble fruit on the nose with a layer of quince followed by berry pastry and roasted almond. Lovely, creamy, persistent mousse with white strawberry and preserved citrus flavours and brioche tones from autolysis. Fresh, bright acid back bone, balanced acidity and a long, energising finish with a hints of flint. Impressive overall; a champagne with wonderful tension and textural vibration - playful and elegant.

Food
PAIRINGS

Champagne is sometimes underestimated as a food companion yet it is wonderfully versatile. This could be paired with baked oysters and caviar, tortilla de camarones (Andalucian crisp shrimp tortilla), Sicilian arancini, pad Thai, or pecorino cheese.
