A Family’s signature wine
The magic of Barolo wine began in 1806 with a love story—the one between the Marquis of Barolo, Carlo Tancredi Falletti, and a French noblewoman, Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, a descendant of the Sun King's finance minister. Accustomed to tasting great French wines, Juliette immediately sensed that the vineyards surrounding Barolo, due to their soil and microclimate, enjoyed a particularly propitious and favorable position, capable of bringing the Nebbiolo grape to perfect ripeness. For this rich and precious grape, Juliette built magnificent cellars to allow its complete fermentation and aging in large barrels of fine oak.
In 1864, the Falletti di Barolo line died out, and the cellars came under the management of a moral entity, the Opera Pia Barolo, until they were acquired by a local producer’s family in 1929: the Abbonas. Today, the fifth and sixth generations are at the helm of the Cantine dei Marchesi di Barolo.
The family’s signature wine, Barolo del Comune di Barolo, derives from the processing of grapes exclusively from the estate’s Historical Crus vineyards, located in the municipality of Barolo, on sloping hills, all within walking distance.
Harvest and Vinification
Nebbiolo harvested in Cannubi, Sarmassa, Coste di Rose, Vignane, Preda, Boschetti, and Ravera contributes to the generous personality of this wine. These vineyards are characterized by soils rich in clay (Marne di Sant'Agata) with different percentages of sand, silt, and limestone.
Each cru is vinified on its own and later blended into this unique expression of Barolo. The perfect combination of the different characteristics of the terroir gives Barolo del Comune di Barolo a balanced harmony between structure and finesse.
