Finca La Pampa was one of the first vineyards to be planted at 1,300 metres above sea level in Mendoza. Salentein’s 2021 Malbec shows wild berries, black pepper and mulberry jam, tobacco, vanilla and liquorice. Generous mid-palate fruit with savoury saltiness, finely structured tannins and juicy acidity. Delicious with duck.

Salentein Single Vineyard La Pampa´97

In 1997, Salentein planted this Malbec vineyard in their Finca La Pampa, one of the first located at 1,300 meters above sea level in all of Mendoza. With this achievement, they expanded the frontiers of high-altitude viticulture and the style of Malbec in the Uco Valley.

Tasting
NOTES

Deep dark purple-red in colour, this Malbec has intensely ripe, wild berry aromas. Cooked plums, black pepper and mulberry jam intermingle with notes of tobacco, vanilla and liquorice. Generous, rich mid-palate, not overly concentrated, shows ripe berry flavours, bitter dark chocolate, cinnamon and a savoury saltiness. Finely structured tannins and juicy acidity balances the pleasantly long, savoury finish.

Food
PAIRINGS

This well balanced wine would benefit from a mild flavoured meat with juiciness and some spice to complement the spices of the wine; pan-fried duck breast served pink with szechuan pepper and a wild mushroom sauce.
