With history dating back to the late 1800s, Wynns Coonawarra Cabernet has become the defining style of the local terra rossa soil. In its youth; dark fruit, bayleaf, eucalypt, toast and vanilla. Dry, lively and juicy with grippy structural tannins - there’s a coolness to the fruit that reflects Bordeaux.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate

Established in 1951, with a history dating back to the late 1800s, Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the region's pre-eminent wine producer and the largest single vineyard holder, boasting the best and longest-established vineyard sites in Coonawarra. Its wines are regarded as benchmarks for the district, lauded for their consistent quality and depth of flavor.

John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon

First made in 1982, the Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon was conceived as the flagship wine for Wynns. John Riddoch himself was a true visionary; among his many achievements are the construction of the Wynns Gabled Winery and the establishment of the Coonawarra Fruit Colony.

The John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in small quantities from the finest fruit grown on the estate's extensive Cabernet Sauvignon plantings in the heart of the terra rossa soil. It has become a definitive Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, made only in exceptional vintages, using less than one percent of the estate's top-quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

Tasting
NOTES

Open nose is not overwhelming; expressions of dark fruit, herbaceous notes, bayleaf, eucalypt, toast, vanilla and subtle spices. Moderate alcohol is matched by good palate density showing freshness of fruit and savoury notes of fine white pepper, spice, smoke and animal notes. Dry, lively acidity, juicy and well balanced with grippy structural tannins - there’s a coolness to the fruit that reflects classic Bordeaux. Very youthful, but excellent.

Food
PAIRINGS

Australian Cabernets have a natural affinity to red meat; slow roast shoulder of lamb, or the Swedish dish, beef rydberg. Also worth experimenting with flambéed chicken kebabs, glazed with sesame and red chilli.
