The Terre à Terre Wine
The Terre à Terre is a signature wine from our off-the-beaten-path boutique winery. Based on our unique terroir, with meter-thick limestone plateaus, the Terre à Terre is a blend of the Southwest of France's true treasures. Our vineyards, some up to 70 years old, reflect the heritage of our region, with its most intense grape varieties—Tannat, Malbec, and Merlot—finding their way into this wine. Small yields of approximately 40 HL/HA, manual harvesting, and the most sustainable practices in the vineyard, combined with our state-of-the-art stainless steel tank cellar and 18 months of aging in the highest quality French oak barrels, make up the DNA of the Terre à Terre.
The Terre à Terre is created with the intention of reflecting the intensity of its limestone and clay terroir and the dry, hot climate of the Southwest of France. While we are now fully organic certified, the 2016 vintage had not yet received official certification. That said, our sustainable small-batch production has long been part of our philosophy. For example, we have been working our soils mechanically for decades. The 2016 vintage, therefore, reflects our approach to sustainable production, with the highest attention to biodiversity in the vineyard.
The Tannat in our Terre à Terre mainly comes from a 70-year-old vineyard located at the highest level of our estate, while both the Merlot and the Malbec are from vineyards on our most limestone-intense plateaus. All varietals are vinified separately and kept separate throughout the entire production and barrel-aging process. The assembly takes place only shortly prior to bottling. Once in bottles, we store the wine in our cooling chambers until it is ready for consumption.
