Uncovering La Caccia's Heritage
La Caccia is an Italian winery by sommelier Michael Kennedy and winemaker Marc Gagnon that is inspired by an amazing piece of land in a part of Tuscany that has largely remained untouched for 1,200 years. La Caccia translates as ‘The Hunt’ in Italian, a nod to the historical past of the estate which dates back to the 10th century.
A Symbol of Tradition
The image on the front label depicts a hunting hide that still stands on the property. The hide is now surrounded by vineyards that produce this elegant Super Tuscan.
Terroir Exploration
During their first visit to the property, Marc and Michael were struck by the unique terroir - limestone, clay and sand - and all on hillsides farmed organically by master vineyard manager, Francesco Baffetti. It was clear to Michael and Marc that these soils were in part reflective of Bordeaux, enticing them to create a classic Super Tuscan blend from the estate utilising Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in addition to native Sangiovese.
Vintage Character
The 2020 is an incredibly elegant wine from the estate. The vineyard was dry for most of the year and rained somewhat soon before harvest, lessening the intense concentration and adding a bit of softness.
Craftsmanship in Vinification
The wine was vinified classically using 50% new French oak from tonnelleries Bel-Air and Taransaud.
