IXSIR

Altitudes Red

Lebanon, Batroun District

2019

Altitudes Red

From the highest vineyards in the Northern Hemisphere, this red cuvée reflects the purity and freshness of the Lebanese mountains through its richness, elegance and complexity. The warmth and ripeness of the black fruit would pair well with rack of lamb with cumin and turmeric and a yogurt sauce.

The Meaning of "Ixsir"

The name Ixsir derives from ‘Iksir’, the original Arabic word for ‘elixir’, a word common to many languages, defining the purest form of all substances, a secret potion that grants eternal youth and love

Vision of Ixsir

The vision behind Ixsir is to reveal the best terroirs of Lebanon, some long since forgotten. Cultivated with respect to sustainable agriculture, Ixsir’s vineyards are spread across the mountains of Lebanon on clay-calcareous and limestone soils, from Batroun to Jezzine, and benefit from the unique microclimates that Lebanon has to offer. Ixsir’s vineyards culminate at an altitude of 1,800m, making them the highest in the Northern Hemisphere.

Winemaking Process at Ixsir

Winemaking occurs in the winery located on the hills of Batroun where a 17th century traditional Lebanese house presides over a contemporary winery with sustainability at its core. Recognised several times for its green credentials, Ixsir Winery was named by CNN as one of the greenest buildings in the world and won the international Architizer A+ award as well as the Good Green Design award and the Green Mind MENA award.

Crafting Wines by Ixsir

Carefully handcrafted by Ixsir’s winemaker, the wines reflect the purity and freshness of the Lebanese mountains through richness, elegance and complexity.

Tasting
NOTES

Medium ruby colour with purple hue. The nose has moderate intensity led by ripe red plums and dark cherries. Delicate hints of green bell pepper, cloves and cedar follow. The palate is delicate with vibrant acidity. Liquorice, black pepper and a little bit of bell pepper come to the fore. This wine takes the best each variety has to offer and presents a sum that is greater than its parts.

Food
PAIRINGS

The warmth and ripeness of the black fruit would pair well with rack of lamb with cumin and turmeric and a yogurt sauce. However, it needn’t only be red meats. This wine could also accompany more delicate white meats such as roast chicken or turkey as well as sweetbreads and offal.
