From Humble Beginnings to 60ha of Vineyards on Golden Mile Bench
For three decades, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards have been crafting exceptional wines in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. Through hard work, dedication and a love for the land, they have grown from very small beginnings in 1993 to cultivating 60ha of vineyards on the famed Golden Mile Bench and Black Sage Bench. The winery is commitment to sustainable vineyard practices, it is a statement, it honours everything they do. For thirty years they have been cultivating a healthy, vibrant vineyard with the earth in mind. As stewards of the land, their aim is to ensure it remains healthy and productive for future generations.
Championing Sustainability: A Commitment to the Land
In 2022, the vineyards received Sustainable Status by Sustainable Winegrowing, British Columbia for their ongoing care and respect for the land. Tinhorn Creek Vineyards Reserve Cabernet Franc 2020 embodies the essence of classic Cabernet Franc. It dazzles with intense, ripe blackcurrant and vibrant violet notes, underscored by the subtle embrace of vanilla from French oak ageing.
In 2020, a warm start in April transitioned to cooler, wetter months in May and June. Yet, the weather turned hot and sunny from late June to August, ensuring consistent ripening and flavour development. The warmth continued into September, allowing an extended ripening period resulting in rich, concentrated wines. The 2020 Reserve Cabernet Franc was hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel utilising natural yeast and fermented until dry. Ageing was in French oak barrels for 18 months before bottling. Winemaker, Leandro Nosal comments. “Working with Cabernet Franc in the Okanagan Valley is a true joy. As a winemaker, I cherish the versatility of this grape. It offers endless blending possibilities and allows me to create wines that beautifully showcase the distinctive characteristics of this remarkable wine region. The climate, diverse soils and unique landscape provide the perfect conditions to create unique wines with Cabernet Franc that highlight the grape's personality while celebrating what makes the Okanagan Valley truly special.
