La Source Chardonnay
WBSS 2025 Crest Image

The Willamette Valley, Oregon, has some of the most exciting soils for Chardonnay outside of France. This pure, energetic Chardonnay from Evening Land Vineyards shows intense floral and citrus fruit, lime and oregano aromatics. Apple freshness, amazing tension and an almost electric energy. What a wine to pair with lobster.

La Source Chardonnay

Tradition of elegance and richness

La Source Chardonnay continues the great tradition of elegance and richness we've come to expect from Seven Springs Estate. Sourced from old-vine Dijon clones in the lower half of a narrow band of 14 vine rows, the wine speaks of the volcanic soils scattered with iron-rich rocks and pebbles.

The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, and the juice is transferred to 500L Stockinger puncheons for indigenous fermentation and élevage. Our La Source and Summum Chardonnays remain in barrel longer than the Pinots, which was inspired by Sashi Moorman's affection for the French notion of affinage (refinement).

Year after year, this wine shows equal parts verve and breadth, and 2022 is no different. Classic notes of struck match, lemon zest, and Fuji apple coalesce with hints of baking spice and lees that widen in the mouth. A long growing season and fermentation lend a freshness and high-toned character to the wine, showing as tart, salty yellow fruits that sail through the palate. Mouthwatering, zippy, and poised to reveal more with years in bottle, La Source speaks to the electric side of the world’s top white grape.

Tasting
NOTES

A beautifully crafted, delicate style of Chardonnay with intense floral and citrus, lime and oregano aromatics. Interesting and complex. Moderate mid-palate shows zesty freshness, wet stones, citrus and crunchy apples. There’s amazing tension and texture from yoghurt and butter notes thanks to lees ageing. Great energy, pure and very elegant on the long finish. An amazing wine.

Food
PAIRINGS

Such an elegant, refined wine would be best paired with seafood; baked turbot, lobster, young fennel and mousseline sauce. Ceviche, or lemon sole with butter and capers - all would work beautifully.
