A Legacy of Passion: The Bemberg Family's Journey into Winemaking
The Bemberg family’s story in Argentina began with Otto Peter Bemberg, whose remarkable ability, sharp intuition, and charismatic personality laid the foundation for this cosmopolitan family of entrepreneurs.
Otto's Vision: A Fusion of Cultures
Otto quickly embraced his new life in Argentina while maintaining strong ties to his European heritage. His diplomatic connections and interactions with influential figures across different cities sparked a fascination with wine, which became a central cultural element at many gatherings.
Expanding Horizons: Acquisition and Passion
This deep connection to wine remained a constant throughout Otto’s life. In 2010, the family’s passion for wine led to the acquisition of a prestigious group of wineries. As their collection grew, so did their desire for something unique—wines that would bear Otto's imprint and reflect his personality. This desire became a reality with the creation of Bemberg Estate Wines in 2010.
Turning Dreams into Reality: The Birth of Bemberg Estate Wines
The Bemberg family entrusted the acclaimed winemaker Daniel Pi with the responsibility of turning their vision into exceptional wines. The result was a collection of wines that reflect the best terroirs of Argentina, sourced from a selection of the family’s vineyards in the country's most celebrated wine regions.
A Global Vision: Sharing the Legacy
By 2018, the Bemberg family had achieved their dream and were ready to share their wines with the world. Determined to create a lasting legacy for future generations, they established both a winery and their family home in Gualtallary Albo, one of the most prestigious wine regions in Argentina. This area is known for producing wines that have achieved the highest international acclaim.
The Essence of Gualtallary: El Tomillo Vineyard
Gualtallary has become renowned for producing some of the finest mineral-driven Chardonnay in Argentina. The region's altitude and ancient soils, rich in calcium carbonate, contribute to this unique characteristic. The ‘El Tomillo’ Vineyard, named after the wild thyme that grows in the area, is situated at 1,250 meters above sea level in Gualtallary. This northern part of Valle de Uco in Mendoza lies within the alluvial fan formed by the Las Tunas River.
Exploring Terroir: Soil Composition
The soils of El Tomillo Vineyard are a key factor in its exceptional terroir. They feature a sandy layer that reaches a depth of about 70 cm, beneath which lies a layer of rounded stones rich in calcium carbonate. These soils are known for their very low water retention capacity, which contributes to the unique quality of the grapes grown here.
