Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz

This is the wine that helped forge Penfolds’ reputation with red wine drinkers by combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz. They were amongst the first to do so in 1960. Elegant, deep fruit flavours, fresh acidity, balanced tannins, rich and soft. Perfect with Sunday roast.

Bin 389: The 'Baby Grange' Legacy

Bin 389 was often referred to as ‘Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960 by the legendary Max Schubert, this was the wine that helped forge Penfolds reputation with red wine drinkers by combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz.

Exemplifying Balance: Bin 389's Fruit and Oak Harmony

Exemplifying the judicious balance of fruit and oak, Bin 389 highlights the generous mid-palate for which Penfolds is known.

Tasting
NOTES

Red fruits and pepper come through on the nose. An elegant palate is kept fresh with good acidity, balanced tannins and deep fruit flavours. Oak tones come through towards the finish adding a further dimension to the complexity without dominating the juicy fruit.

Food
PAIRINGS

Fruit, elegance, spice and soft tannins. The perfect combination to enjoy with a classic Sunday roast beef joint served horseradish, roast potatoes and roast parsnips.
