Grave di Stecca: Unique Prosecco Vineyard
The grapes of Grave di Stecca come from a particular vineyard in Valdobbiadene, the only one of its kind in the whole area of Prosecco. Enclosed by a high stone wall that shields it from the outside environment, it is similar to a French clos. The area’s soil and microclimate yield a sparkling wine with extraordinary characteristics: profound and complex.
Passionate Beginnings
Work began back in May 1993, after two years of massale selection of Prosecco old clones from the vineyard, the first new plants were bedded out. Monsieur Guillaume, one of the greatest French pépiniéristes, was sought out for his professional advice and they agreed on an old rootstock, 41b, which is very well suited to calcareous soil. Planted at 5,000 vines per hectare, cultivated by Guyot system.
New Ownership and Vision
In February 2005, Primo and Annalisa Franco bought the whole property and they began to look at this vineyard with different eyes. Just that moment the passion turned over again and produced positive energy. The couple could have produced a Metodo Classico sparkling or a great dry white or a great sweet one. On the contrary, they chose to stay tied to the area and to their historical roots, they would create a vintage sparkling wine from this vineyard using the local charmat method. It should have to express all the characteristics of the terroir. By the 2007 harvest everything was ready to start the new adventure.
Symbolic Front Label
The front label evokes a heart: not only the heart of the winery, but also the heart that quickly pounds when one does something passionately; the transparent glass of the bottle, which lets the wine soul be seen, not only be guessed, before pouring it into the glass; the single vineyard name in evidence before reading everything else; the golden colour of the label which gives brightness and warmth. Through the character of this sparkling wine, their aim is to make people understand their philosophy.
