Origin and Inspiration: Midin Brand
Our brand name Midin comes from the Aramaic name of Öğündük Village. Our logo was created by Albert Tuman as a special design inspired by old Aramaic cuneiform (B.C. 3000). The logo means ‘Midin’s Wine’.
Ancient Winemaking Heritage: Mahsarto Unveiled
A Mahsarto (winery) could be described in Aramaic as a stone (gurno-Aramaic) which has a cavity in the middle where grapes would have been pressed to make wine. Recently, a Mahsarto was found 5km outside of the city of Mardin. It is believed that this Mahsarto was built by Assyrians in the Ancient Ages which contained dozens of wells consisting of carved stones. Nowadays, this place is named “Çelbira” (Forty Wells) and consists of all kinds of different sizes of wells and carved stones. It is believed that this winery was the biggest winery of the Ancient Age.
Historical Town: Ömerli and Mahsarto
The town of Ömerli’s Assyrian name is Mahsarto, located right in the middle of a plateau about 900–1300m above sea level, between Mardin and Midyat. Even though Assyrians left the town, the locals still call themselves ‘Mahsertians.
