WBSS 2025 Crest Image

This Malbec comes from the highest vineyard in the world (3,111m). Alluring and individualistic, a charming wine displaying black fruit, violet flowers and toasty notes along with balsamic hints and generous, weighty black and red fruit.

Altura Maxima Malbec

The passion, persistence, and ruthless determination of Donald Hess drove him to plant a vineyard at the highest altitude in the world, at 3,111 meters above sea level (10,200 ft). Our wine represents the highest expression of Malbec. The terroir, shaped by the extreme altitude of the vineyard, receives much more sun and much less UV protection, resulting in thicker-skinned grapes that deliver a more robust mouthfeel, supported by fresh acidity.

Tasting
NOTES

Crisp dark fruits amass against lean, sharp acidity, giving clues to this wine’s high altitude provenance. This individual expression of Malbec shows black fruit and violet notes along with toasted notes of oak - a most alluring nose. The palate shows hints of balsamic and generous, weighty black and red fruit. High acidity, moderate tannins and a charming aftertaste that nudges towards eucalyptus make for a captivating wine.

Food
PAIRINGS

With such clarity of fruit this wine would pair well with venison haunch, or roasted elk meat with a red wine jus. Goat meat empanadas would also be fitting.
