A Vineyard at 310m Above Sea Level with Transitional Soils from Granite and Schist
Produced in the north of the Alentejo (Portalegre). The vineyard is situated at 310m above sea level and is currently in conversion to organic farming. Transitional soils are mainly derived from black granite and schist. Manual harvest, co-fermentation and foot treading in marble lagares. Aged for 10 months in uncoated Italian amphorae.
The winemaking is inspired to bring together two very traditional grape varieties from the Alentejo; Aragonez, which is very tannic, and Antão Vaz which, with the help of 5% or so, balances and softens the texture of the wine and fixes the colour. Ageing in amphorae adds minerality and polishes the tannins due to micro-oxygenation.
This is a wine in honour of the Roman ancestors who built the village of Torre de Palma, the label shows the original mosaic of the Choir of Muses found on the estate. The Muses were the daughters of Zeus and considered the source of human inspiration. Limited edition of 930 bottles.
