Culmen: The Epitome of Excellence at Viña Lanciano
Culmen is the jewel in the crown of Viña Lanciano. It comes from an exclusive selection of old vines that produce very low yields of superb quality grapes, Pago el Rincón, the most prestigious plot of Viña Lanciano. An exclusive pleasure, it is only released in exceptional vintages. Culmen is the wine that represents the culmination of the estate’s work made from a selection of 60-year-old vines; 87% Tempranillo and 13% Graciano.
Prestigious Terroir: Pago El Rincón
Pago El Rincón vineyard is located in the southern part of Viña Lanciano which is in the village of El Cortijo in Rioja Alta, next to El Rincón Mountain. The vineyard is situated at 491m with gently sloping terrain; north-south facing with a slight incline north-west to south-west. Vines are pruned as traditional Rioja bush vines, each with three arms and five spurs of two buds in length. Yield is around 3,500kg/ha.
Meticulous Winemaking Process
Hand-harvested grapes go through a double selection process. Alcoholic fermentation is in small, truncated cone-shaped stainless-steel tanks and malolactic conversion occurs in very fine-grained new French oak barrels from Tronçais and Jupille forests. Aged for 22 months with two rackings at 7 and 15 months to favor the natural sedimentation cleaning of these wines. Bottled in May 2022 it remains in the bottle for about another year before release, refining its aromas and rounding its palate.3,635 cases produced.
